OVERVIEW
The Web Survey Toolbox is a powerful online survey making tool created by Aaron Powers and Sara Kiesler at Carnegie Mellon University. However many users contacted Powers and Kiesler with concerns about the usability of the website and the web survey toolbox. Thus they turned to our team in order to help alleviate the raised concerns and improve the Web Survey Toolbox. After numerous studies, we decided to redesign the website and create a new survey wizard to aid new users in the creation process.
WEBSITE REDESIGN
Both user studies and heuristic evaluations revealed problems with the navigation and organization of the original webpages. Our solution was to simplify the navigation and optimize the layout in a unified design.
TOOLBOX REDESIGN - WIZARD CREATION
Contextual inquiries showed that the Web Survey Toolbox can be extremely difficult for new users to create a survey. Our goal was to simplify the creation process for new users by 1) a new survey wizard and 2) improving the existing question wizard. Our new design ensures that the survey creation is both simpler for new users and common tasks are optimized for expert users.
