OVERVIEW
No matter how many strategies people employ to improve their memory, humans will unfortunately still forget a thing or two. The goal of this project was to redesign of the Palm interface in order to prevent forgotten tasks by helping users remember everything on their to-do list. The challenge in doing so is that the new interface should be designed such that users think only of the task at hand, and not about the interface itself. Users should also feel free to complete tasks in their own way, not in the system's way. The theme of our solution is “More in my face, less in my way.”
MORE IN MY FACE
Inspired by a contextual inquiry of an extremely busy individual, the solution is an interactive To Do Visualization bar that stores every to-do item the user either enters into the Palm directly or through a complementary email plugin. The To Do bar is always visible on the screen to serve as a constant reminder to the user of what they need to do.
LESS IN MY WAY
The interface redesigns address numerous usability problems that emerged from heuristic evaluations, a think aloud study, and a cognitive walkthrough. The new designs aim to simplify known tasks as well as streamline common tasks.
